Acne
Acne has several stages each characterised by the type of breakouts you may be suffering with. Outbreaks cannot be blamed on poor skin hygiene as it is caused by the body producing excess sebum, also being “too clean” can make the condition worse. Whiteheads, blackheads, papules, pustules and nodules can all be recognised as acne or breakouts. Acne can also be caused by hormonal imbalance and can develop at any age. Acne scarring is caused by the body effectively putting “too much effort” into healing the wounds caused by acne, meaning that there is an excess of collagen built up in the dermis. This collagen may stay in place permanently, creating acne scarring.
In some cases the result is not a true scar, but simply an excess of pigmentation. This may fade away over a few months or years, but generally isn’t permanent as with other acne scars.
